God's Word - YOU Choose Your Attitude

Attitude for Challenges in Your LifeWhen Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?"

"Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
Note: It was believed that an angel stirred the water. The first person into the water after the water was stirred would be healed.

Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." At once the man was cured; he picked
up his mat and walked.
John 5:6-9 (NIV)

Jesus made the offer, “Do you want to get well?” The lame man wanted to be healed. He had been unable to walk for a very long time. He didn’t realize who Jesus was. Jesus cured him though the man never asked. The invalid admitted that he needed help. His hopelessness over getting into the water ahead of others is evident. Jesus didn’t hesitate to offer help even though the man lacked faith.

Jesus essentially said that the man could help himself by simply getting up, picking up his mat, and walking. The invalid man chose to immediately get up and walk. He didn’t wait and miss the opportunity. The man chose to help himself; to get up and live.

Facing challenges in your life is about choosing to ask God for help. Take on an attitude of trusting and obeying God to take charge of the decisions and directions in your life. Unlike the invalid in today’s scripture, you know God. You know He stands beside you waiting to help and to perform miracles in your life. Be in the habit of asking, responding, and accepting God’s help with a thankful heart.

You may not always recognize the work God is doing in your life when you are going through difficult times. God will make you strong when you are overwhelmed by life’s situations without you asking. Look for Him when you experience difficulties, you will find Him by your side.

So today take on the attitude of standing in Christ from whom your strength comes when you face challenges
in your life.

Prayer: Thank God for being by your side to help regardless of your situation. Ask Him to help you stay in His Word and in prayer daily to keep your heart and mind focused on Him.
