Do what is good! James was addressing the arrogance of people who were boasting that they could foresee and control the future. They made plans without considering God’s plans. James warned them and told them that knowing what is good and not doing it was sin.

Wow, the struggle between knowing what is good and actually doing it! There was a time when the first thing in the morning I would be on my computer answering emails or searching for something on the internet. I knew I should be spending time with God. Instead I chose to get lost in time ignoring what I ought to be doing. God waited for me every morning. I focused on my computer until I had to rush out the door. I don’t know when my routine changed but I began finding my devotional and Bible on my desk instead of my computer. Spending time with God has been a great way to start my day. It gives me love, hope, strength, and focus on what is good to take with me out the door and through my day.
